The applicant will make a CD recording
or an audio tape of the above selection.
*Choose one movement of a classical, romantic, or
contemporary concerto; two movements if using a shorter Baroque concerto. Make
sure to choose an audition piece with commercially available orchestral parts.
If you are unsure whether orchestra parts are available, consult your teacher
or check with Dr. Hal Campbell at 586-8414.
Applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 25 at the time of the
Spring Concert, April 10, 2008. Soloists who have performed with the orchestra
before must wait three years before auditioning again. If chosen for the final
audition, the applicant may choose to bring an accompanist or perform alone.
Each soloist will receive a $50 honorarium on completion of the rehearsal and
concert dates.

The deadline for receiving the audiotapes is 5 p.m.
Friday, December 14, 2007. (Recordings
may be submitted prior to the deadline, but any received after December 14 will
not be considered.)
On the first level of
auditions, all recordings will be judged “blind.” That is, the recordings will
be numbered as received and then submitted to be judged without any
identification of the person performing. Recordings submitted to anyone other
than Pete Akins will be disqualified.
Live auditions for the six to
eight finalists will be held Saturday, January 19, 2008. Finalists will
be notified by letter as to time, location, and any other details.
By complying with the above requirements,
the applicant, if chosen to perform with the orchestra, will agree to be
available to rehearse with the orchestra on Thursdays in March and April 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Heritage
Center (actual rehearsal dates and times for individual soloist will vary). The
concert is scheduled to take place on Thursday,
April 10, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in the Heritage Center.
