Exploring European Music at Next Recital<= /span>

Europe was a birthplace of significant types of mus= ic for many centuries. The third recital of the Orchestra of Southern Utah’s= 10^th annual Fall Recital Series, on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 PM, features a variety of music of = European composers. Performers are musicians from the community and the recital is at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, 70 North 200 West in Cedar City. Suggest= ed donation is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

&= nbsp; Soprano Megan Harris returns for her second performance this recital season, singing “Cavantina” by Donizetti. Tenor Tyler Reidhead, another returni= ng performer, sings “Tempo e’ alfin di muover guerra” by Ste= fano Donaudy. They will each be accompanied by Maria Reidhead. Both singers are seniors in high school, Megan at Dixie High School and Tyler at Cedar = High School. At their respective schools, they are each in Madrigals and serve as Choir President. They are = also in All-State Choir and have consistently received Su= perior ratings at State Solo and Ensemble competitions. They are both voice studen= ts of Jackie Riddle-Jackson. Megan is an aspiring opera singer and Tyler also plays t= he trumpet and recently released a CD entitled “Tyler Reidhead--Who Am I," including original compositions.

Horn player Johnny Gallis shares the French influence of European music, with “Morceau de Concert” by Camil= le Saint-Saëns. Johnny is currently a student at Southern Utah University= . He has played the French horn for more than eight years, has been a member of = the Orchestra of Southern Utah for two years, and also plays with Color Country Winds.

La Belles, a bell choir from Community Presbyterian Church, will perform “Ring Thy Grace” and “O Worship The King,” accompanied by Julie Beck. The ringers are Angie v= an Scoyk, Robin Parker, Christine Winterrose, Sandy Gallis, and Lee Bechtel. T= his ensemble began about three years ago and is a returning recital favorite.

&= nbsp; “Rondo” by Haydn will be played by a group of young musicians: Courtnie Duncan, pia= no, Hilary Stavros and Kindal Erickson, violins, Julie Lundgren, ‘cello, = and Kristen Lundgren, viola. Courtnie studies piano with JoAnn Jones and is a student at Cedar Middle School. The other four memb= ers have played together as a string quartet for six years and are all seniors at Cedar High School.

Italian influences will be explored in vocal and instrumental pieces. Fred Dunnell sings “Recitar” from the popular opera Pagliacci by Italian composer Leoncavallo. His accompanist is T= eri Kenney, his daughter.

Pianist Mary Anne Andersen also performs m= usic from Italy with “Notturno” by Ottorino Respighi. Mary Anne and her husband LeGrand perform frequently together and are active musicians in the area. S= he also serves as a board member of the Cedar City Arts Council and writes a column for the Spectrum and Daily News newspapers.

&= nbsp; In Jubilo, a women’s choir, performs a group of vocal selections. This choir, under the direction by Jackie Riddle-Jackson, consists of approximat= ely twenty women from the community.
