Orchestra and choirs present "An American Salute"

The Orchestra of Southern Utah is excited to announce their upcoming concert,
“Choral Celebration 2005: An American Salute,” sponsored by Cedar City Corporation and OSU’s season media sponsor, Utah Public Radio.  It will be on Sat., September 24, 2005, at 7:30 PM at the Heritage Center Theatre, 105 N. 100 E., Cedar City.

Over 60 orchestra musicians, under the direction of Xun Sun, and 300 singers from Cedar City and surrounding areas will participate in a stunning concert of choral music by noted American composers that celebrates the exuberance, patriotism, joy and beauty of America.   The centerpiece of this concert will be American composer Randall Thompson's beloved "Frostiana Suite" for chorus and orchestra, with texts by Robert Frost.  The Mormon Tabernacle Choir recently released a CD of this suite to enthusiastic reviews, available through Navarre called "Choose Something Like a Star."

Participating choirs in this major event are the Master Singers, under the direction of Dr. James Harrison; Canyon View High School Madrigals, under the direction of Mrs. Adrianne Tawa; Cedar High School Madrigals, under the direction of Mark Ganowsky; Parowan High School Madrigals, under the direction of Cary Zwang; Southern Utah University Women's Ensemble, under the direction of Amy Smart;  and Southern Utah University Concert Choir and OPUS Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Grace St. Pierre.

The orchestra and choirs will perform individually and as a mass group, under the direction of guest clinician and mass choir director Dr. Grace St. Pierre, Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Voice at Southern Utah University.  The evening closes with an audience sing-a-long of Irving Berlin’s “God Bless American” and Carmen Dragon's stirring arrangement of "America the Beautiful."

This is a stunning event not to be missed! Please join us and make our evening complete.  Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and children over six, and $30 for a group of six, and are available at the Heritage Center box office, 865-2882.  OSU season tickets are also available for $25 at the box office, and include admission to this concert.  Low-income Iron County senior citizens can get free tickets at the Cedar City Senior Citizen Center, 489 E. 200 S., made possible through a grant from Iron County United Way.  For more information call 867-8501 or visit www.orchestraofsouthernutah.org.
